Cevamit

Cevamit is a lime-based, explosion-proof mixture for breaking and dismantling solid systems - i.e. concrete, stones, rocks and masonry. It is used wherever explosives or heavy equipment cannot be used. Just drill, pour in a mixture of Cevamite and water and wait for the 40MPa pressure to do its job.

What is Cevamit

Cevamit is a non-explosive mixture for disconnecting and breaking up solid systems, especially where heavy equipment or explosives cannot be used. Only materials that are subject to tensile stress and are damaged by brittle fracture can be disconnected with this mixture, i.e. e.g. plastic materials cannot be disconnected with this mixture.

Cevamite is essentially a special mortar mixture which, when mixed with water in a certain proportion , hydrates and at the same time increases its volume due to the formation of a new compact structure. This creates a crystallisation pressure of 30 to 40 MPa.

Where Cevamit is used

  • Mining and processing of rocks for stone production, even in strictly protected areas.
  • Disconnecting oversized pieces of stone.
  • Destruction of concrete and reinforced concrete masonry structures.
  • Destruction of other solid materials which have a tensile strength less than their compressive strength.
  • Modification of closing slopes, grooves, etc.
  • In civil engineering and well digging

Advantages of using Cevamit

  • It is not subject to an approval process
  • Easy handling of the mixture and slurry
  • Does not require special training
  • Safety of the disconnection process
  • No adverse effects as in blasting
  • Possibility of uncoupling in places where explosives cannot be used
  • No side effects on the surrounding terrain or on the material to be disconnected
  • Possibility to stop the uncoupling process at any time by drilling the solidified mixture out of the borehole
  • Summer and winter mixtures, small and large packages available
  • Low price

How does it work?

First, holes are drilled into a given fixed system with a length equal to 80% of its height or length or width. The minimum diameter of the holes is 30mm and the maximum diameter of the hole is 105mm (for a diameter of 60mm or more, the hole must be suitably plugged after the mix has been poured). Drill holes in the disconnected material at such an inclination that the CEVAMITE suspension can be poured into them. The optimum borehole diameter is 40mm. Drill the boreholes in rows. The distance between each borehole is 10 times the borehole diameter and depends on the strength of the material to be disconnected. In particularly brittle materials, it works up to 40 times the borehole diameter.

Preparation of Cevamit suspension

CEVAMIT is mixed with water in a ratio of approximately 10:3 (i.e. 10 parts Cevamit to 3 parts water) by pouring clean water into a suitable container and gradually adding CEVAMIT with stirring until a homogeneous slurry is formed. After stirring, the mixture must be used within 15 minutes, otherwise solidification occurs. The mixture can also be mixed in concrete mixers. There must be no water in the boreholes. If it is not possible to remove the water from the boreholes, then the mixture must be filled into polyethylene casings or Cutisin casings so that the entire borehole space is filled.

Expansion with pressures up to 40 MPa

Within approximately one hour, the CEVAMIT mixture in the borehole hardens and begins to hydrate. During the hydration period, the CEVAMIT expands and exerts a compressive stress on the borehole walls, which depends on the borehole diameter and the water content of the mixture and is around 40 MPa. The hydration time is 72 hours.

Disengagement of the material occurs within approximately 24 - 72 hours. It depends on the density of the mixture used and the temperature of the material to be disconnected.
